PurFi
About
PurFi Manufacturing Belgium is a start-up and a frontrunner in the upcycling of textile waste. PurFi started in 2021 with a unique, self-developed machine capable of 170 lpm for the upcycling of industrial and post-consumer waste fabrics made of spun yarn, such as cotton, polyester, acrylics, aramids, high-end wools, silk, cashmere, and a mix of cotton and polyester.
Instead of conventional fabric shedding, PurFi performs soft mechanical recycling. This gentle, slow process preserves the length and strength of the recycled fibres, producing outputs comparable to original fabrics. PurFi contributes to the circular textile economy by helping businesses reduce their greenhouse gas emissions as well as the use of virgin materials, water, energy, and space.
Role in the project
In SORT4CIRC, PurFi will assist with the standardisation of the waste input parameters. It will also process the textile waste sorted as part of the project and analyse the performance of the resulting fibres, as well as conceptualise new yarns and products made with recycled content.
